This story makes me so sad. Such a waste. We don't want cats to act like cats, then they'd be a threat. We take from it, starve it, burn out its home, beat it, we try to kill it because we cannot contain it. The need to control is a human thing. Every living thing must create specific adaptations to imposed demands. Are we really in control. Some creatures create incredible adaptations that one would clearly see as the genius of nature and genetics.
